Program Description
London, England: One of the most vibrant centers of the arts in the world!
Spend a full two weeks exploring the galleries and performance spaces that have made this city famous. We will attend music and theatre performances, along with visits to famous art galleries. There will also be time to explore this fabulous city on your own.
The group will reside in Kensington, a very upscale neighborhood in the heart of London, near Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, and Buckingham Palace. Transportation is nearby, easy to navigate and included in the cost of the program.
Attending a variety of theatrical performances will be a major component of this program: from classics by Shakespeare to a West End musical to a fringe production. Musical performances will include an evening concert of Handel in St. Martin-in-the-Fields. There are numerous free music recitals and beautiful Choral Evensong Services at Westminister Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and many more.
Art galleries will include the National Gallery, British Museum, and the Tate Modern. We will also visit the Tower of London, ride the London Eye and take walking tours with John Mackey, the Academic Liaison for our semester-long program. We will tour Hampton Court Palace and take a day trip to the seaside at Brighton. We also have an overnight trip to Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-Upon-Avon, tentatively scheduled. It will be a busy, but very exciting two weeks!
Program Cost
The finalized per student price is $3900. The cost of 2 credits at CSB/SJU (estimated at $900) is not included in the price.
This price includes round-trip international airfare from Minneapolis to London; accommodations during the program; local transportation; admission to museums, cultural attractions, major musical and theatre productions outlined in the itinerary.
Students will be responsible for most of their meals, personal spending money and any activities not included with the program.
Housing
Housing and classroom facilities, along with many other support services are provided by the Foundation for International Education (FIE), based in London. Their website has information about the location, housing, services, academics, etc. In past programs, the group has stayed in the Hyde Park Gate Facility. A few will be housed at Metrogate, which is just around the corner from Hyde Park Gate. Computer acess for all students is avaliable at Metrogate, 24 hours a day.
