Program Cost

The ProWorld program fee is $3,205 for San Ignacio and $3,045 for Punta Gorda. The program fee covers full room and board (home stays), all onsite domestic transportation upon arrival, roundtable discussion with community/school members, transportation to schools, one cultural or adventure activity per week, pre-trip organizational discussions and program materials, extensive staff support throughout all phases of the program, 24-hour emergency access to support staff and offices, travel insurance for each participant, and liability insurance for CSB/SJU and students. Airfare from MSP to Belize is estimated to be between $640 - $740. The total estimated expenses minus a $500 stipend is $3200 - $3400.

 

Requirements

  • Completed application submitted by December 1st
  • Approval by ITE Committee
  • Once approved and notified, Education will register you for EDUC 368 (2) during spring 2012
  • Signed contract with Education regarding EDUC 368 and stipend requirements
  • Attendance at two pre (fall 2011) and one post (June 2012) ITE cohort meetings
  • Valid passport at time of departure- Cost $110, it takes between 4-6 weeks, but if you wait until late spring it may take longer. You can ask to have it expedited (return in 2-3 weeks) for an additional $60
  • Visa - Belize, Germany, and Japan all of 90 guest visa arrangements so no visa is needed. Remember when you arrive you are to state you are there as a tourist only not for business or as a worker.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion 16 weeks student teaching
  • Completion of ITE Guidelines and Application Form
  • Current Passport at departure time
  • Ability to pay all travel expenses
  • Ability to pay all personal expenses including room and board
  • Successful interview

Suggested Timetable 

  • Student teaching:  January to late April 2012
  • Graduation, May 12th (CSB) and May 13th (SJU)
  • Departure week of May 14th (best airfares often found on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
  • Arrival in host country by defined date - TBA
  • Work in host K-12 schools as teaching assistant or team-teacher for 3 - 4 weeks from mid-May to early June
  • Return to USA or travel on own
