Induction into Kappa Phi is held annually. Active membership benefits include official publications, priority for educational programs, and priority in research funding.
Kappa Phi-at-Large is the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. Kappa Phi was established in 1988. The mission of Kappa Phi is to support the purpose of Sigma Theta Tau International, honor society of nursing, by recognizing superior achievement, recognizing the development of leadership qualities, fostering high professional standards, encouraging scholarly work, and strengthening commitment to the ideals and purposes of the organization.
Qualifications for regular membership shall include those candidates - students or community, who have demonstrated superior scholastic achievement, academic integrity, professional leadership potential and/or marked achievement in the field of nursing. Candidates shall be elected from students enrolled in a baccalaureate program which has been accredited by the nationally recognized accrediting body for professional nursing. Students who have completed at least one-half of the required nursing component of the baccalaureate curriculum shall be eligible. Students shall have a grade average of 3.0 on a four-point scale. Basic students who are elected shall rank not lower than the highest 35% of their class in scholarship. A community nurse leader, with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree, who has demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, or publication shall be eligible.
