  • CSB/SJU students may apply for admission to the Nursing major in May of each year by completing the Application to the Nursing Major Form.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum prerequisite course GPA requirement of 2.75 and complete all prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher in each course.
  • Prerequisite courses include: Biology 121, 212; Psychology 111; Nursing 220; Statistics (Math 124, Psychology 221 or Sociology 201); Chemistry 125; Nutrition 125.

Policy on Late and Incomplete Submission of Applications:

If your application to the nursing major is not complete, you may still submit your application by the deadline. Once you meet all the criteria for admission and your application is complete, you will be considered last in the admission rankings and admitted on a space available basis in the year that you apply. Applications not submitted by the deadline will be considered using these criteria as well. If you are not admitted, you may reapply the following year.

Acceptance Process

The Nursing Department will only accept qualified applicants up to the approved institutional limit. Nursing pre-requisite GPA will be the basis for the selection process after qualified Early Admission Program (EAP) students and ROTC students have been accepted to the major. If there is a tie in the nursing pre-requisite GPA, then the College Cumulative GPA will be used to break the tie. Students repeating courses and transfer students will be considered for acceptance on a space-available basis after qualifying students who have completed their pre-requisite courses at CSB/SJU. Refer to our Policy on Transfer Students for more information. Acceptance in the nursing major is contingent upon successful completion of the background study and completion of all nursing major prerequisite and other requirements. A student may repeat prerequisite courses one time; no more than two prerequisite courses may be repeated. The Nursing Faculty retain the right to make the final decision regarding student admission to the nursing major.

Applications to the major are reviewed annually in May. Students will be notified of acceptance decisions via campus e-mail accounts in early June. Academic Advising will assist those students not accepted to the major with any necessary registration changes for fall semester.
