CSB 'Book Lovers’ Night' features author Michael Perry

Wisconsin author, humorist and musician Michael Perry will give a presentation of his work during "Book Lovers' Night" Thursday, Feb. 4 at Alumnae Hall, Haehn Campus Center, College of Saint Benedict.

Perry's presentation is at 7 p.m., preceded by a social hour at 6 p.m. and community reader suggestions at 6:45 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

Perry is the author of the best-selling memoirs Coop: A Year of Poultry, Pigs and Parenting (2009, HarperCollins); Truck: A Love Story (2006, HarperCollins); and Population: 485 (2002, HarperCollins), as well as the essay collection, Off Main Street (2005, HarperCollins). He has written for Esquire, The New York Times Magazine, Outside, Backpacker, Orion and Salon.com, and is a contributing editor to Men's Health.

A native of northern Wisconsin, Perry was raised on a small dairy farm. On his Web site , Perry equates his writing career to "cleaning calf pens - just keep shoveling, and eventually you've got a pile so big, someone will notice."

Besides his work as an author and writer, Perry has performed and produced two live audience humor recordings - I Got it from the Cows (2001), and Never Stand Behind a Sneezing Cow (1996). He also performs regularly as a singer and guitarist with his band, the Long Beds. He is expected to release a new album in mid-March for Amble Down Records.

Perry's books will be available for sale at the presentation. The author will be available to autograph his books following the presentation. In addition, food will be available for purchase at O'Connell's, and beer and wine will be sold at the event.
