Book Lovers’ Night features first-time novelist John Reimringer

John Reimringer, author of "Vestments," is the featured guest author at Book Lovers' Night on Monday, Feb. 20 at O'Connell's in the Haehn Campus Center, College of Saint Benedict.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for an informal book swap, allowing community members to bring in books they would like to give away and pick up books they would like to read. A community member will give reading recommendations at 6:45 p.m. and Reimringer will be introduced at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Reimringer was born in Fargo, N.D., and raised in Topeka, Kan. He received his bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Kansas and a master of fine arts in creative writing from the University of Arkansas. He has been the recipient of two Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowships and a residency at the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, a center for the creative arts in Red Wing, Minn. He has also been a Susannah McCorkle Scholar at the Sewanee Writers' Conference and a Loft-McKnight Fellow. Reimringer currently lives in St. Paul, Minn. and teaches at Normandale Community College, Bloomington, Minn.
"Vestments" is about a wayward yet devout young priest who is torn between desires for spiritual mystery and human companionship. It explores age-old and yet urgently contemporary issues in the Catholic Church. "Vestments" is Reimringer's first novel and was named one of the "Best Books of 2010" by Publishers Weekly magazine. It was also chosen as a Publishers Weekly Pick of the Week/Starred Review, an Indie Next, a Midwest Connections pick and Milkweed Editions 2010 Editor's Circle Selection.
