If cabin fever has you at wit's end, get out of the house from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 for the 2012 "Living in the Avon Hills" conference hosted by the Avon Hills Initiative and Saint John's Arboretum at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn.

The Avon Hills Initiative is a group of local land owners, interested citizens and organizations whose mission is to preserve the rural character, ecological integrity and economic viability of the Avon Hills; which is approximately 50 square miles around the St. Joseph, Avon, St. Wendell and Collegeville townships of Stearns County.

Kick off the conference by attending the 2012 Initiative Awards ceremony in recognition of extraordinary people and organizations that support the mission of the Avon Hills Initiative.

Next, join keynote speaker Michael Lynch as he shares his knowledge of stargazing. Michael is the author of books such as Starwatch, and WCCO Minnesota Weather 2007. He has also been a meteorologist at WCCO for over 30 years!

Join him in learning about the stars of Avon Hills and your place within them!

Following Michael Lynch's presentation, you may select to attend four sessions, and with over 40 presentations to choose from, you are sure to find ones that appeal to your passions and interests as residents of central Minnesota. During each session you will learn about such topics as; wildlife, gardening, land use, traditional skills, natural history, alternative energy, and green construction.  This year's conference highlights areas such as foxes, heirloom tomatoes, pruning, wood-burning ovens, geology, solar power, and more!

While you attend your sessions, your kids ages 5-15 can attend the four sessions designed to stimulate their interest in the natural world. So bring out the whole family and learn more about Minnesota's environment! In between sessions you can enjoy refreshments while visiting with presenters, vendors, and other participants in the exhibit hall. It is a great time to get to know what your community has to offer!

During the conference everyone will enjoy: the 2012 Initiative Awards ceremony, Michael Lynch's keynote presentation, four sessions, lunch, the exhibit hall, and refreshments during three provided break times.

Preregister by Feb. 17, and pay only $30 per adult and $10 per child, making it an affordable event the whole family!
