German TA and Tutor
Qualifications:
- Student employees should have successfully completed courses above 212, which means functional proficiency in German.
- The tutor must have the ability to communicate grammatical and stylistic points to students in 100 or 200 level courses.
- Priority will be given to those students who have traveled or lived abroad.
- S/he should be able to teach effectively on a one-to-one basis and to conduct small group sessions.
- S/he must be willing to attend tutoring workshops provided by the MCL Department.
- The TA should have good organizational, communication, and Internet skills, particularly in website construction.
Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility of the tutor is assisting students with their studies in German which may include regular review and drill work.
- Primary responsiblity of the TA is to assist German professors with correcting quizzes and exams using keys and general office assistance such as scanning, duplicating, and errands.
- Tutors/TAs may also be requested to conduct research for professors, proctor exams, and assist with German Program activities.
Office Assistant
MCL/Hispanic Studies Departments
Description of the Position: The office assistant reports to the Department Coordinator for Hispanic Studies and MCL, and assists in tasks assigned by the Coordinator and faculty in either department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist the department coordinator with general office duties: duplicating; scanning; sorting and delivering departmental mail; filing; mailings; word processing and database; e-mail communication; proofreading, drafting occasional short memos/letters; taking messages; and running errands on both campuses. Assist the departmental faculty with general clerical work: preparing instructional materials, researching library materials, ordering interlibrary loan materials, returning library books, researching on the Internet, running errands, and miscellaneous office duties as listed above.
Qualifications
Ability to interact with faculty, administrators, staff, and students in a professional manner, to carry out both written and verbal directions, to work independently on assigned tasks, to type, to use Microsoft Word and possibly Microsoft Excel. This position will require experience with website programs.
