Read and follow the instructions below prior to your arrival on campus to prepare your computer for connection to the campus network:
Install Windows Updates
- Go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate.
- Follow the instructions provided to install the Microsoft Update software if it is not already installed, check for updates and install all available critical updates for Windows.
Use Up-to-Date Anti-virus Software
Note: Students are required to run anti-virus software on Windows and Macintosh systems. To make it easy for students to be virus free, IT Services provides a Symantec AntiVirus software license for every student on campus. Please note: You will not be able to download this software until your computer is connected to the CSB/SJU campus network. However, your computer should be virus-free before you bring it to campus.
To scan for and remove existing viruses, take the following steps:
- Go to http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=QBXQESLHFEPGEVVSDUX.
- Start the Virus Detection check.
- Accept the license agreement and privacy policy.
- Follow the instructions provided on the screen to complete the virus scan process.
- If any viruses are detected, locate information on the viruses at http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/index.jsp, and follow the instructions provided to remove them.
Install Macintosh Updates
- From the Apple menu, click Software Update.
- Follow the instructions provided to check for updates and install all available critical updates for your Mac.

Network connections, available in all residence hall rooms, provide Ethernet connectivity to the Internet and network resources for student-owned PCs and Macs, free of charge, 24 hours-a-day.

A "Get Connected" guide with instructions for connecting to the campus network, Ethernet cables and Office 2007 software, for approximately $10, will be available on move-in day in August for students.
