Student Owned Computer Requirements

CSB/SJU has a network connection available for every student in the residence hall.

Netbooks and Ultraportables

Although the portability of netbooks may make them look like a welcome addition to a new student's supplies, these scaled down machines often lack the power or screen resolution to be useful learning tools. Most netbooks also have a modified keyboard to allow them to be so small; these modified keyboards can have an adverse effect on typing in general. The smaller screen resolutions on these machines make navigating online content difficult. Most netbooks are not equipped with CD/DVD drives and as a result cannot access material required by some classes. Due to these facts, we advise that netbooks should not be considered as the only computing hardware for students.

Macintosh Desktop/Notebook Requirements

Software Available to Students

The Microsoft Campus Agreement allows CSB/SJU to make available the following software to students for approximately $10.  

  • Microsoft Office Professional
  • Microsoft Office Macintosh
