Tax Information
Things to know:
- All persons working in the Unites States are subject to income tax. F-1 students as also required to pay income taxes.
- All F-1 students and dependents must file the simple 8843 form, whether they worked or not. This can protect you from being improperly taxed in the future.
- F-1 international students are NOT subject to FICA tax (social security and Medicare). If you have OPT or CPT please be sure to tell your employer this.
Taxes are confusing for everyone! Our office is here to help. Early in the Spring semester, our office puts on tax workshops for first year students to explain how to do taxes. For returning students we offer an electronic tutorial to assist you in completing your taxes.

For assistance, our office purchases a program called CINTAX. CINTAX is a web-based tax return preparation system designed exclusively for international students, and their dependents who are nonresident aliens to aid in preparing U.S. federal income tax Forms 1040NR and 1040NR-EZ.
