Cellular Phone Options:

Each student will need to assess their own needs and make a decision that is best for their particular need and circumstance.

  • Contracted cell phones and service:   Many vendors have stores or kiosks in the St. Cloud Mall. In St. Cloud you can find, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint.  Generally, you will need a Social Security Number to purchase a phone and establish a service plan. Only students with an on-campus student job are able to attain a Social Security Number and getting one can take around one month.

  • Pre-paid cellular phones:   Prepaid cellular phones can be purchased at various retail stores such as: Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Shopko, and Best Buy.  Many different brands are available to you such as, Trac-fone, Net 10 and Virgin Mobile.  Minutes for these phones can be either purchased on- line and/or in retail stores.  These phones can be purchased without contracts and generally a Social Security Number is not required.

Because you are a student, some businesses have discounts for students purchasing cellular phones for more information please refer to this link:  http://www.csbsju.edu/telecom/sju/StudentDiscounts.htm
