A Letter from the Director
Hello,
I want to encourage you to begin your personal journey to tap your authentic leadership potential through the Inspiring Leaders Certificate Program (ILCP). ILCP was developed in 2006 under the leadership of the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD) and the SALD Student Leadership Team to provide students with a comprehensive co-curricular value-based leadership certificate program.
ILCP was launched as a pilot program in the fall of 2006 in partnership with the Student Employment Leadership Team (SELT) under the guidance of the Director of Student Employment. Classes were offered in two certificate levels:
- BRONZE Life Skills Leadership
- EMERALD Professional Development
Within a very short time, it was apparent based upon the high level of attendance and attention by students, that ILCP provided a much-needed structure to help students tap their authentic value-based leadership potential. Based upon the high interest level by our students, we realized there was an urgent need to accelerate the timeline to fully develop the complete five certificate level curriculum in order to meet the demand of our Bennies and Johnnies.
We recruited faculty, staff, alumnae/i and national experts to lend their expertise and passion as ILCP presenters. We incorporated ILCP introductory courses in new student orientation to emphasize the significance of authentic leadership grounded in Benedictine Values to our new students. We worked to develop partnerships across campus to collaborate efforts to enhance opportunities to build leadership capacity in our students. At the end of the first year, ILCP awarded forty-seven certificates in five levels to students.
Today, it is with great pride – and some amazement – that I am able to share with you the wonderful results of our efforts. ILCP offers more than 100 classes and/or events per year, facilitated by 36 presenters, and have awarded a total of 257 certificates to students who are invested in developing their authentic value-based leadership potential. The most significant result of this effort is the impact our students have made on our community and beyond, as they demonstrate their personal value-based model of authentic leadership.

About Mo:
Maribeth (Mo) Overland has spent the majority of her life passionately committed to helping people and organizations tap their authentic leadership potential. Her work as a motivational speaker and arts administrator, working at the local, regional and state level, led Maribeth to pursue graduate work in the area of leadership and communication, receiving her M.S. from St. Cloud State University. She holds an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications and Public Relations from the University of North Dakota. Additionally, Maribeth holds Certifications in Arts Administration from the Hubert Humphrey Institute on Public Affairs, University of Minnesota; Mediation from Hamline University, and Enneagram Training from the Enneagram Institute and Olive Branch Way LLC.
Maribeth has served in Student Development leadership positions within the areas of Student Activities and Leadership Development, Service Learning, and Disability Services. Her experience in the world of higher education also includes working within Academic Affairs as an academic advisor and an instructor of first year college transition courses.
She has been a professional speaker, consultant, trainer and coach in the areas of personal and professional leadership and organizational dynamics for more than twenty years. Maribeth has worked with private, public, non-profit organizations and individuals, speaking to audiences of thousands. Areas of expertise include leadership personality, self-mastery through Emotional Intelligence and professional leadership coaching. Currently, she serves as the Joint Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development for the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
