Welcome to CSB/SJU Intercultural Center

The Intercultural Center (IC) at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University is integrated with CSB and SJU Student Developments.  The IC staff strongly believes in recognizing, respecting and celebrating the significance of individuals' human dignity in accordance with Catholic Tradition and Benedictine Values.

The IC department's evolutionary campaign of  "I Am. . . Who Are You? and We Are. . ." have complemented to the concerted efforts of students and employees in several departments, clubs and organizations and off- campus partners to increase intercultural awareness and intercultural competency in our campus community. The IC sponsors and co-sponsors programs at both institutions and provides meaningful support services and mentorship to all students, especially to American Students of Color (ASOC).  The IC inspires and empowers students to explore and learn about their multifaceted self-identities and communicate, interact and connect effectively with people whose values and beliefs differ from their own. Creating awareness and understanding of cultural differences and similarities will help students successfully engage in campus-wide,  local, national and global communities' dialogues and programs.

Our department's staff seeks to assist students in life-long learning and provides key opportunities for students to engage in authentic, in-depth discussions and be agents for change in regards to substantive diversity and inclusivity topics and issues, including but not limited to religion, race, creed, national origin, sex (gender roles), physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, sexual identity and expression, privilege,  socio-economic class, age, and familial status.

Last year, our Center embraced the topic of rediscovery of the identity of Whiteness, and we will continue to discuss this important subject matter.  This year, our efforts will be concentrated in delving into creating, attaining and sustaining community cultural wealth.
