Teaching English as an International Language (Non-Licensure) Course Requirements
Total Credits Required: 24
Required TEIL Courses (16 credits):
- EDUC 300 Structures of English for the ESL Teacher (4 credits) (Spring Course)
- EDUC 301 Teaching Literacy to English Language Learners (2 credits) (Fall & Spring)
- EDUC 302 Assessing English Language Learners (2 credits) (Fall Course)
- EDUC 303 Theoretical Foundations of ESL (4 credits) (Fall Course) Pre-req: EDUC 300 or ENGL 387
- EDUC 304 ESL Methods and Materials (4 Credits) (Spring Course) Pre-req: EDUC 300 or ENGL 387
Required ENGL Course (4 credits):
- ENGL 387 Introduction to Linguistics (4 credits)*
*ENGL 387 can be substituted with an online summer course offered through the University of Illinois EIL486 Linguistics for Language Teachers, 3 undergraduate credits, $1200.
Required Sociocultural/Intercultural Course from the following choices (4 credits):
- COMM 350 Intercultural Communication (4 credits)
- HISP 337 Latino Identity in the U.S. (4 credits)
- PCST 352 Race, Ethnicity, and Justice (4 credits)
- ENGL 382 Race and Ethnicity (4 credits)
