Chelsey Jo Huisman
Chelsey Jo is a member of the first cohort of E-Scholars. She is a recent graduate of the College of Saint Benedict. During her freshman year she received an e-mail that said “Want to Learn How to Become an Entrepreneur?” and she knew that her experience at St. Ben’s was going to take a positive turn.
Chelsey Jo majored in Management with a concentration in Marketing. Over the course of the 2004-05 school year, Chelsey Jo, along with a team of three other E-scholars, created Clemens Perk. They conducted a market analysis for potential feasibility, wrote a formal business plan, forged through barriers and setbacks, finally received a loan from the College of St. Benedict and were on their way to launching the business. After officially opening on November 7, 2005, Clemens Perk that has proven to be successful in a short amount of time. Chelsey Jo took on the Marketing Manager position of Clemens Perk and has experienced everything from employee relations, customer service/retention, and reconciling the numbers. She is very excited that this business has become a reality and is looking forward to its future.
After graduating, she continued her education by traveling first to China and India. She is now working with Ryan Heining a SJU alumni at his business MSpace. She expects to later earning a Master’s in International Affairs. Chelsey Jo says, “The entrepreneurial insight and ‘habits’ I have developed are a direct result of the foundation that the Entrepreneur Studies Program has instilled.”
