Women's Month
Women's Month, which takes place every March, is a series of events that celebrates women's rights, women's issues and history, women leaders, and all things that affect and inspire women. Women's Month is made possible through the collaboration of the Institute for Women's Leadership and the Saint Ben's Senate.

MAYDA DEL VALLE: SLAM POET AND PERFORMER

Mayda del Valle is a Chicago native who is a powerful and talented poet/performer. Oprah's "O" Magazine named her as one of 20 women for the first ever "O Power List." In May 2009 she was invited to perform at The White House for the President and First Lady. Please join us in embracing an evening of authentic artistic expression and courageous poetry that sheds light on the issues plaguing our society.

This program is specifically designed to expose women to their inner leadership capabilities through the learning of horseback riding. Through this simple act, women are able to develop confidence and leadership skills.

Ms. Wahab is an Afghani woman who moved to the U.S. as a teenager. Today she is one of the only female Pashtun translators in the world and has travelled back to Afghanistan several times as a cultural adviser to the U.S. Army. She will be sharing her story, as well as speaking to the experiences of women in different cultures and women's empowerment.

Are you aware of the gender roles operating when
you consume alcohol? Excessive alcohol consumption is heavily marketed, promoted, and romanticized as fun, sexy, and the thing to do. The real "morning after" picture is hardly seen. However, Spin the Bottle explores the role popular culture has on alcohol consumption especially in the college party scene. This film provides the real message of alcohol effects and how it plays a role in gender identification.
