What does Women's Leadership mean to you?: To me, women's leadership means women taking the initiative and going out on a limb to get things done and make changes that they want to see in the world. I think we all have it in us to be leaders, but it all depends on us finding the strength to stand up and take that leadership role, with the knowledge that you may face adversity in the process.

Rachel ZieglerRachel Ziegler, Coordinator of Volunteer Programs

Year: Senior

Major: Biology and Peace Studies

Involvement: Amnesty International, composting!!, volunteering with the Arboretum, teaching English in Waite Park

Strangest food ever eaten: Khao Suey - a Burmese dish of noodles, chicken coconut milk, and many spices, topped with everything from carrots and green beans to peanuts and potato chips, with fresh lime squeezed over the top!

Dream Vacation: Zion National Park

Favorite Feminist: My mom and Ani DiFranco (well, her songs)

What does Women's Leadership mean to you?: Just as the term feminist doesn't denote someone who thinks females are superior, being supportive of women's leadership doesn't mean that one thinks women are better leaders. For me, women's leadership means stepping away from the conventional image of a leader as the captain, the commander, as someone who is always in the forefront, the figurehead, the one with power. Being a leader means being aware of the power you have to influence others on a daily basis by the way you live your life, through the choices you make every day.

What Does Women's Leadership Mean to You?: For me, women's leadership is about standing up for what I believe in and creating a support system in which creative minds can thrive. A step toward change, no matter how small, is still a step worth taking. I recognize that I have the ability to inspire change in the world and this is just one step on that path.

Year: Senior

Majors: Communication & Theology double major

Strangest food ever eaten: Before my study abroad experience in Greece and Italy, I traveled to Madrid, Spain where I tried octopus at a small tavern.  It was horrible.

Dream Vacation: There are so many places I would love to visit, all of which are very different, but a top few would be Ireland, Alaska, or the entire east coast (especially North Carolina, anyone want to take me? :)).

Favorite Feminist: Alice Paul.  I'm all about her zeal.

What does Women's Leadership mean to you?: Women's leadership is personal.  There isn't one way to be a leader, but endless ways that express your personal gifts, dreams and values.  It's a character within that represents women in a courageous, loving and authentic way.  It's living with exhilarating passion and a positive attitude.  Lastly, I see it as recognizing that it's not all about you; it's to serve a greater purpose.

What does Women's Leadership mean to you?: Women' leadership, for me, is about knowing who you are as a person and then as a women, particularly. What is it about you that makes you passionate and makes you tick? As women, we are called to embrace those traits and quirks that make us who we are, and we are created to spread that around. Women have an incredible opportunity to change this world due to their unique perspective on life and truly living.
