Lector
Thank you for your commitment to the ministry. New Lectors should be at the chapel at 5:00 p.m. in order to practice and be prepared for mass. If you have been a lector at the chapel before, please check in at 5:40 p.m. in the Sacristy. If you are unable to be a lector on the day you are scheduled, please find a replacement and let our staff know as soon as possible.
Before the Eucharist
- Sign in on the ministry sheet in the gathering place by 5:45 p.m.
- Take part in lectio on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in the Gathering Place.
- Rehearse at 5:20 p.m.; find your assigned seats
- Practice the entrance procession and recessional procession
- First reader carries the Lectionary into the church during the entrance procession and after all have bowed, places the Lectionary on the ambo, opens it, and goes to their pew
- Second reader and petition reader carry candles
Use of Cordless microphones:
-
Attach the mic to the chest area, about 6 inches from chin before leaving the pew
- The cord must hang straight down to prevent cracking noise
- After a prayerful pause, turn on the button and leave the pew
During the Eucharist: Proclamation of the Word
-
Bow toward the altar and go directly to the ambo
- Read slowly and clearly and project your voice into the mic
- After completing the reading, pause, look up, and proclaim “The Word of the Lord.”
- Wait until returning to the pew to turn off the mic
- Petition reader goes up to the altar immediately after the Creed. If there is no Creed, watch the presider as he comes toward the altar
- Petition reader remains at the ambo while the presider says the closing prayer
- Petition reader motions to the assembly to be seated before announcing the collection
- Petition reader bows to the altar, but not to the ambo and simply returns to pew after the announcement
Recessional
-
Walk out of the pew when the presider comes to the base of the santuary and you all bow together. Then the first and second readers walk out together and the petition reader walks with the presider (on the right side of the presider). When there is a guest homilist, the homilist walks with the presider.
- The candles, Lectionary, and cross are not carried out
Note: Readers should dress appropriately and have a waistband or belt to hold the the cordless mic pack.
