La Cruz

 Students will work with various organizations that serve the immigrants and refugees in the St. Cloud area including La Cruz. 

Casa Guadalupe

Casa Guadalupe Multicultural Communities (CGMC), located in Cold Spring, serves the growing needs of the Latino communities of Stearns, Sherburne and Benton County.  For sixteen years CGMC has been providing services to the public, aiding with referrals, having educational workshops and engaging the community in civic and economic participation. CGMC is the only Latino resource center in over 16 counties in Central Minnesota that advocates and directly works to empower the Latino community.  Programs and type of work include:

  • ELL (English Language Learner) classes provided during the summer
  • Citizenship Classes
  •  Leadership training for civic participation
  • Las Comadres is our woman's educational and social group that participates in leadership, health and  child- parent relationship sessions. The women serve as a source of support among the community.
  • "Girl Scouts" Latino group meets regularly at Casa Guadalupe Multicultural Community.
  • We arrange for students to participate in their community with our active "Youth Program".
  • We provide K-8 academic tutoring for students in their home.


What to Expect:

  • Cost: Each ABE trip costs $325.
  • Travel: Participants will have a van for the week in order to get around St. Cloud and Cold Spring with ease.
  • Lodging: Participants will stay with host families.
  • Food: Some meals will be provided by the host families. Any meals not provided by the host families will be supplemented by funds given to the Co-Leaders.
  • Work: Participants will work at Casa Guadalupe helping them in the office and volunteering in their programs as needed.
  • Extra Fun!:
  • Focus: Inter-cultural learning and understanding, community, refugees, learning
