What sparked my interests in CERTS?

You see a lot of things in your daily life that disturb you or grab your attention, and often times, you never gain the opportunity to truly face these things. For me, one of these alarming things is that there are men and women on our campuses who either don't know the value of consent, or disregard the value of consent. CERTS was the opportunity that knocked on my door to do something about this. I happily opened the door.

Hobbies: Web surfing, Shopping, reading and writing

What is my favorite letter of the CERTS acronym?

My favorite letter is T. Communication is an important part of our culture. Much of what we know and what we believe comes from communication. Talking is such an important, convenient and easily used tool, since words are something we all know how to use.

Name: Camry Martinez

Major: Communication with a Music minor

What sparked my interest in CERTS?

I wanted to have the opportunity to empower students on campus by equipping them with information regarding healthy relationships and sexual assault.

Hobbies:

I enjoy long walks through the arboretum and a good white mocha from the Local Blend. When I'm not walking and caffeinating I am involved in the Honors Program and working in the Admissions office at St. John's.

Favorite Letter of the CERTS acronym and why:

R is my favorite letter of the CERTS acronym because I think that every person deserves respect, especially in relationships.

My name is Brittney Jones and I'm from the Bahamas.

My major is Biology Pre-Med and I aspire to be a Pediatric Surgeon.

Equality is my favorite Acronym of CERTS because I believe that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and impartially. We all have the right to make knowledgeable decisions. As an enthusiastic member of the CERTS team, I enjoy working with other members in brainstorming new ideas to positively portray issues surrounding sexual health. I chose to be a part of this team because it allows me to be innovative and creative in coming up with new campaigns that would be personable and fun to students.

CERTS wants you to ask CONSENT

Treat others with RESPECT in every event

To have EQUALITY that is mutual

And make TALKING your usual

To TALK about the issue and always listen

And you'll be better prepared to make a wise decision

Name: Kaylee Mathews

Major: Psychology

What made me interested in CERTS? I love the idea of being able to give to the community I live in by providing important information regarding relationships and sexual health.

Hobbies: I love being outside, painting, baking and playing ultimate Frisbee. I love getting creative any way I possibly can! And being active as much as possible.

My favorite letter of CERTS? T for talking. I think it's so important that people have communication in any kind of relationship.

Name: Valcia McGann

Year: Senior

Major: Psychology

Why I did CERTS: I wanted to be a part of CERTS because I wanted to be more involved with promoting healthy, safe sexual decisions among students on campus. I wanted to use my creativity and skills to come up with engaging ways to educate others, and facilitate honest conversations so that students are able to make healthy and informed decisions regarding sexual issues.

Hobbies: I like to dance, sing (in the shower), work out, volunteer, travel, read, cook, take nature walks, bike, jet ski, go to the beach, shop, listen to music, and be involved around campus. I also like to work with children and adolescents, spend quality time with family, and friends, and learn about different cultures!

Favorite Letter: R- Respect. I feel that respect is vital in the foundation of any relationship, and probably the most important. With respect, there is more likely to be communication, trust, mutual understanding, and a healthy relationship. Without respect, it is less likely that there will be consent, equality, (healthy) talking, or safety.
