Introduction
The laboratory portion of courses offered by the CSB/SJU Biology Department and independent research are important elements of our curriculum. However, work with biological materials poses hazards. For that reason, faculty and staff follow the policies in the CDC/NIH text, Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, 4th Edition, May 1999. (A copy of this text is available in Dr. Ellen Jensen's office.) In this biosafety plan, we specifically outline the type of work that can be safely performed in our setting and appropriate precautions to be taken to protect our students, faculty and staff.
