Meet Our Students: Chimme Dolkar and Tenzin Tsomo

Tenzin and Chimme
Chimme Dolkar and Tenzin Tsomo are both from Nepal, both board members of Asia Club, and very good friends! Chimme is a senior Communication and Management double major. Tenzin is a senior Accounting major and Management minor.
“We have grown a lot since we first arrived here,” both Chimme and Tenzin said. Four years ago, Chimme and Tenzin were both freshmen in a new environment with new people. They understood that they were different from their fellow American friends in terms of language, skin color and cultural background. Breaking through these differences was difficult at first.
As time passed, students around them became curious about Chimme and Tenzin’s cultural heritage. Chimme and Tenzin started sharing their cultural heritage with other students on campus. Every year, they set up a booth to introduce Nepal in the Festival of Cultures. Last year, they presented their religion, Tibetan Buddhism, in the Learning Through Difference Conference. Through interactions with other students, Chimme and Tenzin found that what makes a person diverse is not one’s physical background, but one’s knowledge of, and openness toward, the world and other cultures.
Fired by their passion to share and learn about cultures, both Chimme and Tenzin joined the board of Asia Club. Organizing the Asian New Year, a big event on campus, left them with unforgettable memories. At the end of the celebration, they both felt a sense of unity when every Asian New Year participant stood up and silently listened to the national anthems of all of the Asian countries. Chimme and Tenzin said the Asian New Year celebration was a challenging task as there was little time after winter break to prepare everything. However, they did it with great success! They both expressed that it was a great experience to be board members of Asia Club.
Now, Chimme and Tenzin feel prepared to go out into the world and meet the challenges that await them. Chimme hopes to find an internship related to communication and management, while applying to MBA programs. Tenzin will go back to California and work for two years before going to graduate school. We wish them every success!
