Senator David Durenberger was the first cadet battalion commander of the Fighting Saints Battalion.

This picture was taken in the spring of 1971, and it shows the SJU Pershing Rifles Company H-2, which was a military fraternity organization sponsored by the Military Science Department.  The blue and white shoulder cord is a Pershing Rifles decoration.  The setting is at the Regimental competition which was held at the University of Nebraska.  SJU Company H-2 won the large traveling trophy often enough to win it permanently.

The Cadets are:
Front row: Steve White '72 (center), Denny Doherty '72 (next right).  Unknown Cadet at far right was SJU '71.
Second row:  Mike Seymour '72 (far left), Joe Brand '72 (far right).  Unknown Cadet next to Brand was also SJU '72.
Back row:  Tom Hansen '72 (far left), Mark Spinler '72 (far right)

This information was provided by Kevin Scott, SJU '72, graduated and commisioned in December '71.
