2011 Ice Fishing Tournament
With the temperature dipping far below zero, FSB (Fighting Saints Battalion) Cadets braved the freezing weather in order to serve our community in the 21st Annual Brainerd Jaycee's $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza. The tournament took place on January 23rd in Brainerd, Minnesota. Armed with hand warmers, thick military issued gloves called "choppers," and high spirits, FSB Cadets set off at 5:10 am for Gull Lake. The FSB's mission was to maintain the contest area perimeter in order to ensure all rules were enforced. Performing spot checks, Cadets checked participants for banned items such as glass and illegal fish.
Fishing participants and Cadets interacted cheerfully as excitement for competition grew closer. Over 10,000 people attended this year's tournament, to include Governor Mark Dayton. Working together with tournament officials, FSB Cadets displayed their hard work and dedication by holding the perimeter for hours at a time. Icicles would form on eyelashes from the chilling wind as Cadets continued on their mission. After 8 hours of hard work, FSB defrosted and set off for home. Cadets greatly displayed their selfless service throughout the event with positive attitudes and dedication. The tournament was a learning experience that allowed our future leaders the chance to serve our community. We look forward to another great experience next year!
