Maple Syrup Field Trips
Students of all ages will invoke all their senses while learning about an important Minnesota tradition.
Field trips typically include the following activities:
- Tapping Demonstrations
- Sap Collecting
- Winter Tree Identification
- Why Sap Flows
- History of Syruping
- Tour of Maple Sugar Shack
The Minnesota DNR's publication, Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, has a Young Naturalist section on maple syruping. Read the article and view the teacher's guide to using it in the classroom. The information is a great pre or post activity surrounding a field trip to the Saint John's Arboretum Sugar Shack!
Scheduling
Contact Sarah Gainey by email or at 320-363-3133 to arrange a trip.
Maple syrup season is weather dependent but typically runs from March 15 - April 15.
