Future Chemists Scholarships and Support (FoCuS)

The Future Chemists Scholarships and Support (FoCuS) program is a new special program for students interested in Chemistry and Biochemistry at CSB/SJU. While all students with a strong interest in Chemistry and Biochemistry are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to students who have been historically underrepresented - minorities, women and students with significant financial need.  Incoming students in the summer of 2012 are eligible for this program, which is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Students who are accepted into this program will receive a scholarship of $18,500 a year (4 -year value $74,000), and valuable mentoring in their field.

Curricular Program

In addition to the scholarship award, this select group of students will gain specific mentoring, academic, leadership and research experiences which will help prepare them for careers in these fields. Students in the FoCuS program will go through a program that starts with a summer orientation and introductory summer chemistry class, leadership and mentoring opportunities, a problem solving seminar, career exploration in the junior year, and finally a Senior Research Project in the senior year. Participants will also have access to summer research opportunities on and off campus.

Interested in Learning More?

If you are interested in being considered for the FoCuS program and you are graduating in 2012 or later, please complete the short "I'm Interested in FoCuS" form.

Please note that completion of this form simply indicates your interest in FoCuS. It does not guarantee consideration for the program, nor does it commit you to the FoCuS program and/or CSB/SJU if selected.
