Academics

The CSB/SJU Difference

The first thing you’ll get as a Bennie or Johnnie is the opportunity to learn amazing things. The last thing you’ll get is lost in the shuffle. At the heart of the CSB/SJU academic experience is the connection between students and faculty — both in the classroom and beyond. More than 85% of all seniors stress the importance of faculty mentors as an instrumental aspect of their positive experience at CSB/SJU.

All classes are taught by faculty members (as opposed to graduate assistants), providing CSB/SJU students with the opportunity to learn from experienced, recognized scholars who are committed to continued growth within their own disciplines. And with a larger faculty than many liberal arts colleges, there’s an even more extensive range of courses available in many departments – and more opportunities for you.

Experiential and International Learning

Important learning happens inside and outside of the classroom. Our hands-on, experiential educational opportunities in study abroad, service-learning, internships and undergraduate research are a highlight of the CSB and SJU academic experience. In fact, the Integrations Curriculum has an experiential engagement component to ensure every student has the opportunity to take the skills they gain in the classroom into the real world.

Integrations Curriculum

Through the Integrations Curriculum, you’ll learn how to make connections between your academic coursework, your campus life experiences and your own life and the world around you. Integrated learning – the ability to see relationships among the arts, the sciences and the humanities – is a valuable, real-life skill that makes CSB and SJU graduates highly sought-after by employers and the nation’s top graduate programs.

You will get an education that builds on the skills and experiences you bring with you to CSB and SJU while exposing you to new topics, new perspectives and career possibilities you may not even know exist.
