HLC Links

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC), CSB/SJU's accreditation agency, provides a great deal of support and resources through their web page.  In addition to the links included below the self-study team is in regular contact with the HLC.

The following links are those we would like to highlight, and which are the most applicable to our general self-study and accreditation process.

  • Confronting Competing Imperatives, a Power Point presentation given by Steve Crow, HLC President, at the August 23rd, 2007, faculty workshop.  The presentation highlights issues in the current national debate over accountability in higher education.
  • The HLC Overview of Accreditation provides brief general information, and would be useful to someone unfamiliar with the accreditation process.
  • The Handbook of Accreditation is the detailed "user's guide" that the self-study committee will be using to guide their work to fit the expectations of the HLC.  This document includes the five criteria by which the self-study's subcommittees are organized.
  • The HLC's Fundamental Questions Expanded serves as an extremely useful and simple aid in conversations about student learning and assessment.
